Hi!
Here’s the roundup of things worth sharing that I heard, watched, and ate the past 2 weeks.
👖Everyone and their mother seem to be doing collabs and we might be reaching collab fatigue mode, but The Gap’s new ad featuring Troye Sivan (and the one with Jungle and Tyla launched in February) stands out as a smart move. Why sponsor an artist’s music video when you can make one yourself? The Get Loose campaign uses Troye’s audience to showcase the new denim collection in a refreshing commercial that doesn’t scream “buy me”, like we’re getting more and more used to. The comments section seems to agree.
🎧 Cults of all kinds have always fascinated me and since I found Sounds Like A Cult, I’ve been a fan. Amanda Montell is a great host and she keeps the conversations light and interesting. It clearly shows she’s done her research and that’s always a plus. I listened to “The Cult of Hollywood” last week and it brought a different perspective to the LA glamour that the media portrays.
I’ve been meaning to read Amanda’s book “Cultish - The Language of Fanaticism” for ages. If someone’s read it, let me know what you thought!
🎧 I saw that a new podcast was featured in SLAC’s page, called “I’m Right, You’re Wrong”. It’s hosted by Amanda’s former co-host Isa Medina and Lydia Keating. The episode I listened to was on botox and filler, and whether these beauty aesthetic procedures are ethically and morally right or wrong. The show’s structure follows a casual exchange about the episode’s topic, and then the co-hosts go into an actual debate. The show’s producer designates one side of the argument to Isa and Lydia and they have to argue their point of view for 3 minutes each (even if it’s not their true opinions). It’s smart, candid, and especially intriguing if you’re an indecisive Libra like me.
🍴Everyone tells me to go to Cora, in downtown São Paulo, and last night I finally did. I took some potential business partners from out of town to the restaurant and they were in awe of the place, the food, the menu. Every plate is thought out to be shared between everyone at the table, and the dishes range from stracciatella with pancetta, figs, and pecans to duck heart with cauliflower, and toasted onions. Would recommend and would go again.
🎬 Hogarth Australia launched a new internship program which is fully talent-based. Yup, no resume or previous experience needed. And it’s 100% anonymous. The application process involves making a video, and the most creative applicants get the job. I’ve been in the production industry for 8 years and I think this is fascinating. I’m not gonna lie, no one’s ever asked for my resume, but creating an internship program whose only criteria is creativity and execution is fresh, innovative, and let’s the applicants be judged on what the work will consist of anyway, which is creating.
Do I think that post video-shortlist the remaining applicants should come in for a casual chat to be assessed if they’re total a*holes? Yes. But I commend the Hogarth HR department for coming up with and allowing for a more inclusive selection process nonetheless.
➕ New and not-so-new things I’ve been loving
🎶 Always More to Listen: I can’t get For Crying Out Loud! by Finneas out of my head
📝 Always More to Watch: The music video is also pretty cool
Um beijo,
